New on Nintendo Music: Golden Sun the Lost Age

Nintendo has delighted fans of classic role-playing games with the latest update to its Nintendo Music app, adding the full soundtrack of Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002/2003, this beloved sequel to Golden Sun continues the epic journey across the world of Weyard, and its music has long been celebrated as one of the high points of handheld RPG soundtracks. The newly added album features an impressive 94 tracks, with a total runtime of over three hours, allowing listeners to immerse themselves in the sweeping melodies and energetic battle themes that defined the game’s atmosphere. This addition follows the earlier inclusion of the first Golden Sun soundtrack earlier in the year, giving fans access to the complete musical experience of the GBA duology, which it was basically like one game in two parts.

The Golden Sun: The Lost Age soundtrack is the work of acclaimed Japanese composer Motoi Sakuraba, whose distinctive style blends progressive rock influences with orchestral arrangements. Sakuraba, a veteran of the video game music industry, is known for his work on numerous RPG franchises, including Tales, Star Ocean, and Dark Souls. His compositions for Golden Sun are particularly notable for their intricate layering, dynamic rhythms, and memorable motifs that capture both the grandeur of exploration and the urgency of battle. In The Lost Age, Sakuraba expanded on the musical themes of the first game, introducing new cultural flavors and complex arrangements that reflected the game’s broader world and deeper narrative.

Those who played back in the day, or later, can't forget. The music of The Lost Age is inseparable from the game’s sense of adventure. Tracks like “Battle! [Boss]” and “Jupiter Lighthouse” pulse with tension and excitement, while more serene pieces such as “Apojii Islands” and “Ruins of Lemuria” evoke mystery and wonder. Sakuraba’s ability to shift seamlessly between high-energy compositions and atmospheric soundscapes is a hallmark of his craft, and it’s part of why the Golden Sun series remains so fondly remembered. The Nintendo Music app now offers a convenient way for both longtime fans and newcomers to experience this artistry without needing to boot up the original hardware.

The inclusion of Golden Sun: The Lost Age soundtrack maybe was expected at some point, but we can't stop thinking about when and how Golden Sun will be back. For Sakuraba, whose career spans decades and genres, this renewed spotlight is a testament to the enduring power of his compositions. His work on Golden Sun stands as a prime example of how video game music can transcend generations. So we will continue listening.

Recent additions to Nintendo Music are: Fire Emblem Awakening, Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D
