Animal Crossing: New Horizons turned five years old this past March 20, 2025, and most of the islands have been abandoned. Your neighbors still hope you'll return, but it's unlikely. Everyone is waiting for a new installment on Nintendo Switch 2. In my case, I've recently embarked on spending at least a little time with them again.
In this situation, I've learned to appreciate aspects that I previously overlooked or took for granted. And imagining what the new Animal Crossing will be like, or remembering what the previous ones were like, I've found myself emphasizing a point.
One of the qualities of Animal Crossing that isn't often highlighted is the brilliance behind its dialogue. Yes, sometimes we wish it could have made more sense in terms of gameplay, leading to more meaningful choices, for example. But the imagination and quality of the scripts are beyond question.
I'm bringing you some moments that, while playing, left a little sparkle in my eyes due to the ingenuity and expertise of those who write the dialogues for Animal Crossing.
Similar to the real world, socializing is crucial to our sense of surroundings. In the world of Animal Crossing, the characters have a particular, unique charisma. Each of the villagers and supporting characters deserves their own study throughout the series' installments. You're sure to have a favorite villager, or a character you don't want to miss in the next game on Nintendo Switch 2.
But for now, can we take a moment to appreciate the effort and care these words have? They tried to warm you and cheer you up, they were always well intended and carefully crafted. Animal Crossing always spreads love, and just because of this already deserves all the homages in the world.
